Tell me more: Soul Food is a restaurant located in the heart of the Jewish quarter and unlike most of the other restaurant or cafés we have tried so far.

As most of the times we were once more walking around the city and looking for a cool place to enjoy a great meal. We were just walking around in the Jewish quarter as there are a lot of good places to eat offering a wide variety of different cusines. We stumbled upon Soul Food which we have not heard of before. After taking a look at the menu and driven by our hunger we gave it a shot. We should not be disappointed.

The place is not too big but it offers seats and tables on two floors so we didn’t have a problem finding a place to sit. The atmosphere is quite relaxed and the people working there are very down to earth, friendly and you are quickly chatting with people working there as they seemed very interested in where we are from and what we are doing in Budapest. After taking a look at the menu you have to place your order at the counter. The menu offers a variety of food inspired by american, carribean, jamaican, cajun and creole cusine. They offer burgers, sandwiches, ribs, chicken wings, curry and other food which you can order. Check out their complete menu here.

We chose to assemble our own menu. By this you can chose your meat, a side dish, a green side and a sauce. We chose for drum sticks, home made potate chips, A cole slaw and a Mango-Chili-Lime sauce to go a long with a freshly made lemonade. It took about 10-15 minutes until our food was delivered back to our seat.

What can we say? I guess it’s called Soul Food for a reason beacause that is exactly what we got. Having ordered the drum stick means getting your fingers dirty and sometimes that’s just what you need to do. The meat was just perfectly tender, falling off the bone while eating it. The cole slaw was delicious as well and the Mango-Chili-Lime sauce got along perfect with the home made potato chips. It was a treat and after you have finished you definitely will understand why it is called Soul Food.
